Duke’s OceanFest
Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation is sponsoring a week-long event on the south shore that will include a variety of surf contests such as the C4 Waterman Surf Stand-up Paddle Surf Contest (not sure why they needed to reiterate the “Surf” there), the Roxy Jam Honolulu (likely a wahine-only event), and the Rabbit Kekai Keiki Surf Contest. I’m almost positive my buddy Bernie Baker will be judging the contests. Just so you know, he’s the Triple Crown of Surfing’s event coordinator, so he’s a tough one to please!
Duke’s OceanFest is held on Waikiki Beach by the Duke Statue in front of Queens Break, by the Police Station. The 8th Annual Duke’s OceanFest takes place August 23-29 and will feature an array of ocean sports competitions – surfing, swimming, stand-up paddle boarding, beach volleyball – and more.
There will be plenty of spectators and participants – locals and tourists jam-packed together – enjoying the scene, sun to be had (wear sunscreen!), and food to grind. This is a family-friendly event, so bring the keiki and have a great time! For more information, visit the Duke Foundation homepage, dukefoundation.org.
