Needlework and Baseball

Stitch N’ Pitch, a program of The National NeedleArts Association, combines two great traditions–needle arts and baseball. The deal is that participants gather at ballgames throughout the country and cheer the teams while working on some project or other. Crochet, knitting, cross-stitch, needlepoint, whatever. Sections in each stadium are set aside for the flitting fingered fans.

The Southern California calendar includes upcoming games with the L.A. Dodgers on July 17th and the San Diego Padres on July 19th. Anyone heading north can rah-rah with the San Francisco Giants on July 27th or the Seattle Mariners on August 27th.

Minor leagues are not excluded either, and there are more than 150 teams throughout the United States and Canada and many are hosting Stitch N’ Pitch events this year. Maybe you’d like to host one of these collaborations? If so, the organization’s website provides a downloadable pamphlet with all the needed info. Hmm, wonder if Susan Sarandon would be interested?
