The Reading Room: My French Life

Today’s Reading Room selection takes us beyond merely words for a number of reasons.  My French Life is a dreamlike book that is not a dream.  It is a life, a life-style, created by Vicki Archer and her family in the town of Saint-Remy-de-Provence.  Australians by birth and having fallen in love with France, the Archers fulfilled a life long dream of spending part of their time in this carefully tended “new home” of theirs.  Discovering their surroundings, becoming educated in the nuances of not only French life, but French provincial life provides for escapist reading.  Add to that beautiful photographs of the surrounding area, colorful characters that make their daily life more….colorful and of course, Paris.  Her love of France certainly includes forays into the big city and she shares her favorite haunts that eerily mirror mine.

I would recommend pouring oneself a glass of wine (or tea or whatever your favorite beverage might be) find a quiet moment and get absolutely lost in the beauty of this book.  Truly, you will feel as though you have been on a most magnificent get away.
