Ako Mismo! I, myself will celebrate Independence Day

Ako Mismo is a social advocacy network that invites people to make a difference in society, starting with oneself. Ako Mismo is roughly translated to, “I myself” and it’s all about getting individuals to commit themselves to contributing something- may it be a tiny pledge to pick up trash or a great sacrifice like buying only Filipino goods. It hopes that little actions such as these will create a groundswell of change- one that will help build a better Philippines.

Having friends in that org, I can attest to their zealousness in getting this accomplished. So this Independence Day, I will proudly wear my dog tag. As a traveller, you too can get involved. Purchase a dog tag for P40 (or less than $1) for the first time tomorrow, June 12- officially Ako Mismo Dog Tag Day. Proceeds go to charitable beneficiaries and on the plus side the tags serve as tickets so you get a seat to see some of best Pinoy bands. (Don’t miss Up Dharma Down, Pupil and Bamboo)

Concert starts at 7pm and will feature the following acts — Bamboo, Ely Buendia and Pupil, The Dawn, Kamikaze, Kjwan, and Up Dharma Down. It’s happening this Friday, June 12 at the Fort, across the NBC tent.

It will start officially at 2pm with 20 Advocacy Booths of partner organizations (such as Gawad Kalinga, World Vision, Caritas Manila, ERDA, the Cancer Institute Foudnation) and other NGOs (peace, environment, human rights, good governance) featuring their advocacies and how you can be involved. There will also be other fun interactive activity booths for henna tattooing, face painting, ako kiss mo, photo and video booths, and ako mismo commitment walls and stations.
