Guide Dogs of America Invite You….

Assisting blind and visually impaired people for more than six decades, the Guide Dogs of America (and their peeps) invite the public to an open house on June 13th. Activities include puppy trials, tours, a guide dog demonstration, a silent auction, raffles, food, and merchandise sales. All proceeds go to this worthy program, which provides guide dogs at no charge for those in need.

Whether attending the open house or not, this organization is always happy to dispense information on its three main programs: puppy raising; breeding; and guide dogs. Free tours of the facility are offered on Tuesday-Thursdays, 10 AM-2 PM (reservation required).

In case you’re wondering, the cost of a guide dog adds up to about $38,000 or more. The GDA receives absolutely no government funding (unlike a bazillion far less worthy causes I’m sure we can all think of), but relies only on contributions. Fundraisers throughout the year also provide assistance. And everyone can help out even a little by purchasing a baseball-style cap or enamel lapel pin–both with the GDA logo. You might also want to leave the organization in your will–you’ll be doing great good and reeping revenge on bloodthirsty relatives all at the same time!
