A Home Away from Home at the Black Sheep Inn

While in Orange my husband I made our home at the Black Sheep Inn. Once an old sheep shearing shed, it’s now been converted into a funky accommodation spot which toes the line between bed and breakfast and boutique hotel. Our host Helen was friendly but never intrusive, happy to prepare breakfast, help us get our bearings, and suggest the area’s best restaurants, but also aware of a couple’s need for privacy while they’re away.

As the only guests in the five-room inn, we were lucky to have plenty of that privacy. We spent nights cuddled by the fire, watching DVDs on our laptop, enjoying the dessert wine we had chilling in the fridge and tucking into the homemade shortbread in the kitchen.

Not that we would have felt cramped if the Inn was packed to capacity. Every room has its own ensuite bathroom, so you could happily while away the hours in your quarters if you didn’t feel like socializing.

The roaring fire and electric blankets on the bed meant we were barely aware of Orange’s chilly autumn weather. The bed was so comfortable too, it was a challenge to rise in the morning. Helen’s continental breakfast made it a little easier though. Crumpets and toast were made a little more exciting with delicious jams and spreads. Seasonal produce was the order of the day, from the fresh berries to the local muesli.

Our stay at the Black Sheep Inn coincided with our third wedding anniversary. The unique surroundings, tranquil country locale, and friendly service at the Inn ensure this will be one milestone we won’t forget in a hurry!
