Dynamic Ceramics: May 21st -24th 2009

Are you looking for that one of a kind, take home souvenir? You know, the one that inspires people to ask “oh my gosh, where did you get that?” Look no further than the annual Diessener Pottery Market. The beautiful medeival village of Diessen am Ammersee is nestled next to the crystal blue waters of the Ammersee lake. Diessen is famous for its ceramics, a tradition that goes back several hundred years. With hundreds of pieces of pottery and ceramics to choose from at every vendor, you’ll be sure to find something that sets your heart on fire.

Diessen is a perfect town for a getaway weekened. Spend your morning exploring the village, stopping in at all of the little shops, lunching in family owned restaurants and connecting to the culture. Take a boat ride on the blue waters and watch the sunset. Whether it be on a refurbished 100 year old paddleboat or a steampowered mini-ship, you’ll easily be able to lap up the gorgeous scenery.

The trip to Diessen, which will take about 45 minutes, is relatively easy. Take the S-Bahn (S5) to Herrsching, hop off, and then take a boat across the lake. Tourist information is readily available at the Herrsching S-Bahn, or you can visit the tourist information office at Hauptbahnhof (the main Munich central station). Check out the MVV-Munich Public Transport Website to learn more. To figure out how to get to the Hauptbahnhof from where you are staying, you can take a look at the Munich Public Transit Map.

Make sure that you purchase the appropriate train ticket to get to Herrsching! You don’t want to be caught with the wrong one! Have someone at the Hauptbahnhof tourst office help you.
