Las Vegas Community Pools Kick Off Summer

The City of Las Vegas invites the community (and friends) to their Summer Kick-Off Fiesta Day And School’s Out Splash Party on Saturday, May 23, 2009 the pool’s opening day of the season.  Enjoy open swimming, the water slide, Latin music, food and beverages. City of Las Vegas staff will share information regarding swim lessons, aquatics teams, summer passes and pool rentals. Food and beverages are additional. splash party

Youth also will enjoy the School’s Out Summer Splash Party for all ages on Saturday, June 13, from noon to 6 p.m. at Municipal Pool for swimming, games, dancing, treats, prizes, music, and all the splash toys in the pool. Municipal Pool is located at 431 E. Bonanza Road ( map it). The cost to attend is the daily pool fee. For more information on the pool parties, call Municipal Pool at (702) 229-6309.

Daily fees at all pools are $1 for ages 4-17; $2 ages 18-49; $1.50 ages $50+; free ages 0-3. A summer pass costing $40 for an individual, $60 for a family of up to 8, $20 for an adult age 50+, may be used May 23 through Sept. 7 at Carlos L. Martinez and Darrio J. Hall Family Pool at Freedom Park, Doolittle and Municipal pools during free swim hours (not for special events or separately priced activities). This summer pass also may be used at Baker and Garside pools June 8 through Aug. 15. Pavilion Center Pool will be open June 1 through Aug. 15. A summer pass for Pavilion Center Pool is priced at $60 for an individual, $100 for a family of up to 8, $30 for an adult age 50+. Summer passes are available now at Municipal Pool, and will be sold at all pools when they open.

Lessons

Swim, dive, synchronized swimming and water polo teams that welcome beginners and intermediate-level youth participants will be offered at five city of Las Vegas pools, in addition to swim lessons and open swimming. Registration is open now for swim lessons and teams offered June 15 through Aug. 8. Information on available swim classes, competitive aquatics teams, summer camps and special events may be downloaded online at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/files/Leisure_Guide_Summer_2009.pdf. The Summer Leisure Guide with this information also is available at city of Las Vegas community schools, community centers and Municipal Pool.

Carlos L. Martinez and Darrio J. Hall Family Pool at Freedom Park, 889 N. Pecos Road, 229-1755. Open swim noon to 5 p.m. May 23-25, May 30-31, June 6-7, Aug. 22-23, Aug. 29-30, Sept. 5-7. The pool will have open swim noon to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday June 8-Aug. 16. Beginning June 15, Freedom also will offer swimming lessons ($25 for 6 lessons over 2-week session), a competitive swim team ($25), diving lessons ($25), synchronized swim team ($25) and water polo ($25). Doolittle Pool, 1950 N. J Street, (map it) 229-6398. Open noon to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday for open swim May 23, May 30, June 6, June 8-Aug. 15, Aug. 22, Aug. 29 and Sept. 5; closed Sundays. Beginning June 15, Doolittle also will offer swimming lessons ($25 for 6 lessons over 2-week session), a competitive swim team ($25), diving lessons ($25) and synchronized swim team ($25). Municipal Pool, 431 E. Bonanza Road, 229-6309. Open swim hours May 25 through Sept. 7 are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. Adult-only lap swim is available Monday-Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. in limited lanes. The pool will be closed May 23-24 and May 30-31 for swim meets. Municipal Pool also offers swimming lessons ($25 for 6 lessons over two- or three-week session; $20 for 4 Saturdays), a competitive swim team ($25), dive team ($25), synchronized swim team ($25), water polo ($25), water exercise and therapy,  lifeguard training, CPR for the professional rescuer, and water safety instructor training. Call for days, times and enrollment details.

Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive (map it), 229-1488.  Open Monday-Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., for open swim June 1-Aug. 15; closed Sundays. A summer pass costing $60 for an individual, $100 for a family of up to 8 and $30 for an adult age 50+ may be used during free swim hours (not for special events or separately priced activities). This pass will also be good at all other city pools during open swim hours. Pavilion Center Pool may be rented for birthday party packages or private use when available. Swim/dive lessons, special events and teams will not be offered at Pavilion Center this summer.

Baker Pool, 1100 E. St. Louis Ave. (map it), 229-1532. Open noon to 5 p.m. for open swim June 8-Aug. 15, Monday through Saturday; closed Sundays. Beginning June 15, Baker will offer swimming lessons ($25 for 6 lessons over 2-week session), a competitive swim team ($25), diving lessons ($25), synchronized swim team ($25) and water polo ($25). Garside Pool, 300 Torrey Pines Drive (map it), 229-6393. Open Monday-Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., for open swim June 8-Aug. 15; closed Sundays. Beginning June 15, Garside also will offer swimming lessons ($25 for 6 lessons over 2-week session), a competitive swim team ($25), diving lessons ($25), water polo ($25) and synchronized swim team ($25).
