Inn of the Seventh Ray

Hidden in Topanga Canyon, Inn of the Seventh Ray is one of the most peaceful, blissful, romantic, beautiful, semi-remote, New Age-y restaurants in the Los Angeles area. Along with the good vibes and meditative décor, this off-the-beaten-path creekside retreat offers wonderful food at decent prices.

Almost everything on the menu incorporates organically grown produce and other foods, much of it from local farms. Refined sugar, bleached flour, preservatives, and food colorings are all no-no’s in the original recipes. Vegetarian and vegan meals are stellar, but the Inn of the Seventh Ray also offers fresh seafood, range-fed chicken, and antibiotic- and hormone-free meats. Breads, baked daily, are created from organic grains. The award-winning wine list features West Coast and International Whites and Reds, sparkling wines, and “Old World” American varietals. Also available are wines by the glass and half-bottle.

Two kitchens turn out the delectable fare. The Upstairs Kitchen is more casual (organic hot cereals, cinnamon rolls, poppy seed cake), while the Lower Kitchen is more of an event (duck bacon aumlette, frittata, Belgian waffles, goat cheese quiche).

Despite it’s relatively out of the way location, the Inn of the Seventh Ray is extremely popular. Reservations for Sunday brunch and lunch are not required (although be prepared for a wait, especially during summer months). Dinner reservations should be made at least 48 hours in advance, and at least 30 days in advance for major holidays (and that includes Mother’s Day, so either make reservations now for next year or try to grab a table now for Father’s Day).
