Peterhof: the Fountains start!
On May, 8 the Peterhof will be overcrowded, I tell you! I’ll be there too. The first day of the season of the The Russian Versailles, which event can compete with it? It is worth seeing this. Oh, I haven’t told you yet, what the Peterhof is? So, if put it briefly (in details I’ll tell in my later posts), this is a suburb of St. Petersburg which used to be a summer residence of the Russian Emperial House. It was built by the order of Peter the Great, first Russian Emperor, the founder of St. Petersburg.
But it’s not what you should know now, because the main thing about the 45-minutes-distant suburb is that it is full of beatiful parks and fountains, and that these fountains start to work on May, 8. A walk through the parks of the Peterhof with observation of the fountains is a great event itself, the photos by the links below will show you more, of course.
Some practical information. There are two parks within the “Versailles” with paid entry: The Lower Park and Alexandria, which contain most of fountains inside. For this year, the entry prices for non-Russians are: 300 rubles for the Lower park and 50 rubles for Alexandria. Entry in museums are not included in these prices. Open-close: 9.00-19.00
How to get to: the most convenient way is to take a regular bus leaving from the metro stations Avtovo (numbers 224, 300, 424 ) and Leninskiy prospect (numbers K-224, 420, 103). Usually they have signs in Russian: “Сады” or “Фонтаны”.
