Downtown L.A. hosts the Grilled Cheese Invitational
Registration is now open for the 1st 7th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational to be held on April 25th at Los Angeles State Historic Park. Billed as “a Grilled Cheese Sammich cooking competition,” the event challengers competitors to concoct their favorite recipes.
A maximum of 300 grilled cheesers will be accepted, but “sammiches” must be registered online. Each contestant can enter a total of three sammiches, one in each category. Check the website rules carefully to see what will be provided and what you need to bring. You’ll be assigned a grilling station and an 11-inch frying pan (fear not: you can bring a favorite frying pan from home!).
Categories of competition are: The Missionary Position (any type of bread, butter, and cheese or combinations of cheeses–not one other ingredient); The Kama Sutra (same as The Missionary Position but with additional ingredients allowed; and The Honey Pot (The Missionary Position plus The Kama Sutra, but with a sweet taste and dessert worthy).
Compete in the contest ($10) or simply attend this kooky and comforting event ($5). You can even register onsite to be a judge (judging positions are limited to up to 1,700 attendees). Trophies will be awarded. Additional activities include “cheesey” music, exhibition cheese grilling, and cheese-themed comedy and poetry.
According to the event website: “The Grilled Cheese Invitational is based out of Los Angeles, America and is unfortunately not available for birthday parties or Bar Mitzvahs.”
You’ve gotta love L.A.!
