Time for Frühlingsfest!
One of my absolute favorite festivals is almost here! Known as the smaller sister of the Oktoberfest, Frühlingsfest has become near and dear to my heart for a few reasons. First, it’s so much fun that I could just burst at the thought of it. Second, it’s an excuse to wear my dirndl. And third, it is just like Oktoberfest but minus the gazillion tourists and obscenely long lines to enter tents or get a table. Founded in 1965, this relatively new festival is chock full of everything German festivals have to offer: Music, Dancing, Beer Drinking, Tracht, and overall Gemütlichkeit.
Starting on April 17th and ending on May 3rd, the Frühlingsfest will be home to over 100 rides, various beer tents, and live music, all on the too familiar grounds of the Theresienwiese. Go buy some tracht and hop on the U4/U5 to the Theresienwiese U-Bahn stop.
I would highly suggest the Wiesn, Tracht und Mehr shop to pick up a great pair of lederhosen or fabulous dirndl. Coming in all styles, prices and colors, this store is where I go to pick up everything I need.
