Seattle’s Cherry Blossom Festival
Yes, Seattle has a Cherry Blossom Festival, too! In 1976 Japan gave us the gift of 1,000 blossoming cherry trees that were planted along Lake Washington Boulevard, in Seward Park, and at other places around the city.
Seattle has deep cultural connections with Japan, and you can join in this celebration of this relationship at this weekend’s Cherry Blossom & Japanese Culture Festival. It’s an opportunity to listen to the booming taiko drums, look at beautiful ikebana flowers, savor delicious food, view artwork of the past and present, and honor the culture represented in the tea ceremony demonstration.
Location: Seattle Center House
Date & Time: April 17 – 19th, Festivities begin Friday at 10 am and continue through the weekend.
Admission: FREE
For information about the cherry blossoms festival in the “other” Washington, check out The DC Traveler. But there’s lot of other cherry blossoms, too: in the Atlanta area, all over the South, and even up in Vancouver, British Columbia.
