New York-St. Petersburg direct flight this summer?
The other day, I read in the Russian press one interesting news regarding flights between St. Petersburg and USA. It was announced that Baltia Air Lines Inc., based in USA, is going to launch direct flights New York-St. Petersburg this summer, beginning with the frequency of one flight a week than expanding to five a week with its single Boeing 747.
These days we have no direct air connection between St. Petersburg and the USA, passengers are forced to use joint connections, mostly through Helsinki, Paris, London and Frankfurt. It seems to be good news for those planning a trip to St. Petersburg, also prices are promised by Baltia’s owner to be low, at least for first flights.
But there is some scepticism about the project. The main factor here is that the company has been trying to launch the connection since a very long time, and had no success in it. I wrote about it myself in 2005 when working at a local business-paper. The link below the post will give some information about this, though this dates back to 2002. I do not want to say anything about the company’s chances to succeed this time, just want you to have more details than in the recent press.
