Free Family Films in Vegas
The City of Las Vegas has done an excellent job making this town into a home for those of us who have made a commitment to live here. They host festivals, art events, local dances and family activities that get better and better each year. Despite the economic downturn — or perhaps because of it — these events are especially appreciated by both the locals and visitors who want to move beyond the Strip.
One of the most fun for those of us who love a reason to meet and greet our neighbors are the Free Family Films the Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services hosts. The series of four films scheduled thus far are:
- Friday, March 27 — “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,” rated PG
- Friday, April 10 — “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” rated PG
- Saturday, May 23 — “Kung Fu Panda,” rated PG
- Friday, June 26 — “Babe, The Gallant Pig,” rated G
Each film begins at 8 p.m. and is free of charge. This series will be presented in the Centennial Hills Park Amphitheatre at 7101 N. Buffalo Drive, between Deer Springs Way and Elkhorn Road. Participants are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and folding chairs (but no pets or glass are allowed). Come early to enjoy the giant steel sculptures within the park of prehistoric animals that once roamed the area as well as the
splashpad playground, horseshoe pits, a volleyball complex and various paths for walking, jogging or strolling. Films will be canceled for inclement weather, so check before you come at 702-229-1087.
