Stars on Ice Presents On the Edge

Smucker’s Stars on Ice presents On the Edge, as the company returns for its 23rd season of entertaining fans with performances from some of the best skaters in the world.

Ice Skate Olympic Silver Medalist Sasha Cohen headlines the tour, and she’s joined by a other Olympic, World and National skating champions.  The familiar faces will include:  Todd Eldredge, Michael Weiss, Ilia Kulik, Yuka Sato, John Zimmerman, Jennifer Robinson, Xue Sehn & Hongbo Zhao, and Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon.

On the Edge is sure to showcase not only the artistry of the sport of figure skating, but the athleticism of it as well.  I once took a friend to an ice show, and we had the pleasure of sitting right next to the ice.  He had previously pooh-pooh skating as a not being a very athletic event.  After seeing first hand the speed, the power, the agility, and the strength required in skating, he never made that mistake again.

The performances are accompanied by a rich selection of music ranging from Beethoven to Dave Kos, intricate lighting and special effect, beautiful costumes, and impressive choreography that shows just what these skaters can do.

Founded and produced by skating icon Scott Hamilton, who is an Olympic champion himself, Stars on Ice is family entertainment at its best.  This year’s tour begins in Spokane on January 23rd, and then hits Seattle on January 24th, 2009.  It then works it way across the country, ending in Portland, Maine.

With the 2010 Winter Olympics being held up the road a piece in Vancouver, British Columbia, this is a great preview of what we can expect to see next year.
