The Winter Has Come!
Warning news. The winter has finally come to St. Petersburg. Last week the city was blanketed with snow, the weekend brought a snowstorm, and today I have found out that the main streets in the centre are covered with the mix of snow and ice. So, you should be very, very cautious when walking, if you do not want to be forced to dial your insurance company’s number!
Another my advice is to be aware of the fact that though the temperature is sometimes above 0 Celsius, there is a strong wind which might reach a speed of 5-7 meters/second. Coupled with a high degree of humidity, it creates conditions under which you may become fully frozen in one-two minutes when being outdoors. Of course, numerous cafes and coffee shops can save your face and fingers from becoming red or white, but it’s just better to pack your warm clothes in your travel bag you take with. The Russian may advise you to drink 100 gr of the Russian vodka, I would say you should follow it, since alcohol can amplify hurting influences of the cold weather.
The weather forecast till 03.12 is rather good in terms of warm-cold ( between -6 and +5 Celcius), but anyway is rather windy. So, create your travelpacks in order to know where is the nearest café in which you can save yourself from an almost real Russian frost!
But there is one very positive thing in this story. After visiting St. Petersburg you’ll get a full right to say: "Yes, I survived the Russian frost!"
