Oktoberfest: 23 days and counting!
Ok people, Oktoberfest is right around the corner so I hope that you’ve got something in the works in terms of a place to stay and even better yet— appropriate attire!
Alright, hotels. Book one yet? I’d get started! Most likely, many of the “cheap deals” that you may be looking for are booked by now. Don’t take my word as the golden rule, look around to see if you can find anything near the Wiesn (where the festivities take place) or city center. If you’re out of luck there, finding a hotel anywhere on an U-bahn or S-bahn line should be fine as the furthest travel time that you could expect would be about an hour but that’s really pushing it because Munich isn’t that big.
If you’re going to be at the Oktoberfest on Opening Day, which is October 20th, you want to make sure that you get there early enough to get a good spot to watch the opening parade and following festivities such as the official opening and tapping of the first keg. Things kick off at 12pm, so it’s up to you as to when you think you should show up, I’d say an hour or two before hand should be fine.
After the opening festivities Oktoberfest is here to lighten our hearts and wallets for a whole 16 days! As the opening day approaches, keep a look out for some more helpful hints that answer the question such as, ‘Which tent should I go to?” “What if I want to buy some Oktoberfest Bling?” “What are these cookies that have German written all over them” etc.
