Dining at the Wineries of Mendoza – Familia Zuccardi
This is the place that started it all for us. The revelation. The conversion.
Although the idea of having lunch at a winery seemed a nice idea, we had absolutely no idea what was in store for us when we followed through on a friend’s suggestion to make reservations at this lovely winery restaurant. The setting is beautiful, with a vine-covered terrace surrounded by manicured grounds, the service was fantastic, wines naturally delicious, and the food? Indescribable.
In the northeast corner of Maipú, Zuccardi isn’t particularly close to most of the wineries I write about here, many of which are in adjoining Luján de Cuyo. However, as a winery/dining experience it is a must-do. In many ways, the incredible wine-paired meal we were so privileged to experience is responsible for kick-starting our love of Argentina’s food, and for Mendoza in general. It was also one of those marvelous Argentinean meals that went on for most of the afternoon, to the point that we ran out of time for the winery tour itself! We did sample most everything on offer, though…
If you have time for only one winery lunch—and this is a very tough decision for me—I would choose Zuccardi. My only regret is that this was long enough ago that I didn’t realise I would ever write about it, and so I have no photos to do the experience justice.
The menu rotates and is available on their website, and they even offer a transportation service from Mendoza city, with time for a tour and lunch before taking you back to your hotel.
