Good Old Classic Fun
Lace up those running shoes and strap on those iPods – it’s time for the , for the thirtieth consecutive time! Saturday, March 22 is the date, 8 am is the time, and this 10K race is scheduled to start downtown at Decatur and St. Peter St. and end at Roosevelt Mall in City Park. You can register by .
An Easter weekend tradition, this 6.2 mile race has approximately 20,000 entrants each year and draws a crowd to match. Famous for the flat, easy terrain that is refreshingly scenic even though it is so level, world-class runners are often spotted at this event, throwing in their gauntlets year after year. The race also draws many other out-of-towners and ambitious international travellers looking to get in on one of the most exciting and beautifully coursed races the U.S. has to offer. Plus, they can feel doubly good about this workout – a percentage of the proceeds goes towards restoring parts of damaged from Katrina.
Other travellers come to attend the huge Expo that accompanies the race. The Crescent City Health and Fitness Expo, slated to take place Thursday and Friday, is open to the public and promises to be as huge as ever. A post-race party that is about as famous as the main event itself will take place at the finish line, but that’s only open to runners and friends/family of the runners for a nominal fee. It is there that you’ll find sweaty competitors brandishing their trophies, celebrating their cash prizes, and over 500 people will be waving posters awarded to those top finishers and women finishing under 44 minutes.
